CreditorWatch Collect vs Paidnice

CreditorWatch Collect vs Paidnice in 2026

Two Xero-listed accounts receivable tools for Australia and New Zealand, compared on who does the chasing, whether a charge lands on the ledger, and what each one costs. Prices and ratings verified September 2026.

CreditorWatch Collect puts people on the phone; Paidnice puts a charge on the ledger. Both run reminder ladders from a Xero organisation in New Zealand and Australia, and that is where the overlap ends. CreditorWatch Collect, formerly Debtor Daddy, sells email, SMS and call workflows with an optional New Zealand-based AR Specialist team and one-click handover to debt collection, on sales-led pricing with no public tiers.

Paidnice sells a late fee and statement interest policy per customer group, raised as an invoice in Xero or QuickBooks Online, from NZ$109 a month excluding GST. The question for a Xero user in Auckland or Brisbane is whether the missing piece is labour or leverage: someone to make the calls, or a posted cost that makes lateness worth avoiding.

CreditorWatch Collect vs Paidnice

CreditorWatch Collect is a workflow and outsourcing product: reminders, a call queue, and humans who ring your debtors. Paidnice is an enforcement product: reminders, then a fee or interest charge posted to the ledger.

CreditorWatch Collect started life in Christchurch in 2012 as Debtor Daddy, was bought by the Australian credit bureau CreditorWatch in October 2022 and took its current name on 1 March 2023. It runs email, SMS and call workflows and a Call Console that queues calls for your own staff. The vendor's parent site claims Collect reduces outstanding invoices "by up to 30%".

The human layer is the part Paidnice does not have. AR Specialists based in New Zealand phone debtors as if they were your own credit control team: typically one call, a follow-up at seven days, voicemail after three attempts, everything recorded, and the account handed back after two calls or on a dispute. Above that sits one-click escalation to debt collection and legal, on a commission-only basis.

Paidnice, founded in Auckland in 2022, runs the reminder ladder too, but its centre of gravity is the charge. An invoice late fee and a statement interest charge can both sit on the same customer group, the policy differs by group, and the charge is raised on the ledger in Xero or QuickBooks Online as a Draft or Approved invoice.

Insight

On this reading of the two feature sets, the buyer who should pick CreditorWatch Collect already knows nobody in the business will make the calls. The buyer who should pick Paidnice has the people to make a call and lacks a consequence for the customer who ignores it.

CreditorWatch Collect pricing

As at September 2026 the vendor's live pricing page shows two options, Free Trial and Custom, and no tier prices. Every figure below that is not Paidnice's is historical, and marked as such.

The 14-day trial is self-service and capped at 50 debtors; beyond it, an account manager quotes. Third-party listings have carried tiers of A$89 (50 debtors), A$165 (100), A$449 (250, with Call Console) and A$849 (500). An older vendor page, still reachable, priced Advanced from A$99, Pro from A$399, the AR Assistant human service from A$299 and AR Department from A$799.

Capterra lists “from A$175”. None of these appear on the vendor's current page. As at September 2026, verify current pricing. Two costs sit outside the subscription: card payments through the Payrix portal cost 2.76% plus NZ$0.46 with no monthly fee, and debt collection escalation is commission-only on recovery. The vendor's example is 10% on a $50,000 debt, for undisputed debts over $500 and under two years old.

Paidnice publishes a local price table. Essentials is NZ$109 excluding GST, or A$99, for 150 invoices, 600 emails and two team members. Pro starts at NZ$149 (A$139) for 300 invoices with unlimited users and steps to NZ$749 (A$679) at 2,000; Custom starts at NZ$1,599 (A$1,499) above 4,000 invoices. A further Xero organisation is NZ$49 (A$39) a month, SMS is NZ$0.15, and there are no contracts or lock-ins.

Where the two bills cross, by revenue band

CreditorWatch Collect's historical meter was debtor count. Paidnice's is invoice count. A business with few customers and many invoices lands on one side; a business with many customers and few invoices lands on the other.

Ledger sizes are illustrative. CreditorWatch Collect tiers are historical figures from third-party listings and a legacy vendor page, not the live pricing page, as at September 2026. Paidnice figures are the vendor's published price table, September 2026.

Setting up a late fee and an escalation call, in each product

One policy, written down before either product is opened: 2% on trade invoices from day 14 overdue, a call on day 21, and nothing on accounts already paying by instalment.

In CreditorWatch Collect

The 2% clause has nowhere to go. No late fee or interest feature was found on the features page, help centre, FAQ or review-site feature lists, so the charge would have to be raised by hand in Xero and picked up by the next sync.

The call clause is the product's strength: add a call step to the workflow and it lands in the Call Console queue for your own team, or on an AR Specialist's list if you pay for the service. Notes and expected payment dates push back to Xero, and instalment accounts can be excluded from a workflow by contact.

In Paidnice

Build a trade group, attach a percentage policy at 2% with a 14-day trigger, and add an escalation of type Phone Call at 21 days overdue; the instructions go to a designated address. Accounts on a payment plan come off the fee policy while reminders keep running. Your team makes the call; the software logs the outcome to the invoice in Xero.

Run the fee clause over NZ$12,000 that is 30 days overdue. A 2% invoice late fee is $240.00, statement interest at 12% a year is $118.36, and $358.36 is added to the ledger. CreditorWatch Collect has no setting that produces that figure.

Invoice late fee$240.00
Statement interest$118.36
Added to the ledger$358.36

On $12,000 overdue for 30 days, a 2% invoice late fee is $240.00 and statement interest at 12% a year is $118.36, so $358.36 is added to the ledger: 2.99% of the invoice.

The invoice late fee is a percentage of the overdue invoice. Statement interest is the balance multiplied by the annual rate, apportioned over the days it was late. Paidnice can run both charge types on the same customer group; CreditorWatch Collect has no equivalent setting.

CreditorWatch Collect New Zealand Xero

CreditorWatch Collect is live on the New Zealand Xero App Store under its own name, sharing one 4.89 from 91 review pool with the Australian listing. Debtor Daddy no longer exists as a separate listing; the old slug redirects.

An existing Debtor Daddy account has no migration to run: the product was renamed, and the New Zealand listing has been in the store since December 2012. Many of the 91 reviews still reference Debtor Daddy, and the Capterra profile (4.5 from 13) carries its newest quotes from 2017 to 2022. Review volume has been close to zero since the rebrand, so the ratings mostly describe the pre-acquisition product.

The Xero sync runs on a 24-hour cycle with a manual trigger, so a payment received this morning may still show as outstanding in a reminder sent this afternoon unless someone presses the button. Enhanced reconciliation is available for Xero users. The AR Specialists are New Zealand based, and the Payrix portal fee is quoted in New Zealand dollars.

When the workflow runs out, New Zealand escalation is cheap and fast. The Disputes Tribunal hears claims to $60,000 since 24 January 2026, the top-tier filing fee is $468 and a successful claimant recovers it, and the Limitation Act 2010 allows six years. CreditorWatch Collect's one-click handover to a collection partner charges commission on recovery; the vendor's own example is $5,000 on a $50,000 debt.

Paidnice Xero New Zealand

Paidnice is an Auckland company, listed on the New Zealand Xero App Store since December 2021, priced in New Zealand dollars excluding GST, and the winner of New Zealand Small Business App of the Year at the Xero Global App Awards 2026.

The New Zealand listing shows 5.0 from 83 reviews, all five-star. The 2026 New Zealand award follows the 2025 Xero Global Small Business App of the Year, which also took the Australian award. The ledger connection is Xero or QuickBooks Online; MYOB is available as a build on the Custom plan, not as a standard connector.

Xero's native reminders stop at five per organisation, with no SMS and no scheduled statements. Paidnice adds email from the business's own domain (Pro and above), SMS at NZ$0.15, statements on any schedule including consolidated parent accounts, and the late fee and statement interest charges described above. The customer portal takes payment through Stripe or Pinch Payments, with deposits, instalments and auto-pay.

Every contact carries a payment-history score from 1 to 100, built from its own payment record with the business and shown against the contact wherever it appears. It only knows how that customer treats you, so it is narrower than a bureau score and specific to your ledger. An AI Credit Controller is in beta as at September 2026, drafting follow-ups and reading replies, with human approval before anything sends.

Insight

The New Zealand decision is simpler than the Australian one. A Kiwi business is choosing between a product whose heritage is here but whose owner and roadmap are now Australian, and a product built and priced here from the start. The feature gap decides it; head office is a tiebreak at most.

Human AR Specialists and a DIY Call Console, with one-click escalation to debt collection and legal

CreditorWatch Collect has been on the Xero App Store since December 2012, longer than almost anything in the category, and the 91 reviews reflect that history. Reminders run as email, SMS and call workflows with a default workflow per contact, contact exclusions, and a manual-approval mode that previews the next reminder before it goes.

Invoice and statement reminders carry your branding. The portal takes Visa, Mastercard and Amex through Payrix at 2.76% plus NZ$0.46 with no monthly fee, and recurring debits can be scheduled through it.

The Call Console is the differentiator on the software side: calls are added to a queue automatically, staff snooze or advance them, tag outcomes, record expected payment dates, and the notes push to Xero. The AR Specialists are the differentiator on the service side. Reviewers praise the customisation and the way “difficult debts” get systemised; the vendor's headline claims are over 150,000 calls made and $2 billion paid faster.

Risk data is partial. Payment scores and risk-based prioritisation come from the parent, but bureau adverse-data monitoring is not inside Collect itself. There is no public API; Zapier is the integration route. No AI features were found.

Limitations with CreditorWatch Collect. No late fee or interest charge, so the product can ask for payment but cannot price lateness. Pricing is not published. The Xero sync is a 24-hour cycle unless triggered by hand. Escalation to a collection partner is commission-only, and the vendor's own FAQ notes you will still need to make escalation calls. Review volume has been near zero since the 2023 rebrand.

2. Paidnice

Best for a Xero or QuickBooks Online business in New Zealand or Australia that wants lateness to cost the customer something, $1m to $20m

What is it best for?

For a finance lead who has the people to make the occasional call and wants the software to do everything else: reminders, statements, the fee, the interest, and the task when a customer crosses a line.

Does best
A fee and interest policy per customer group, posted to Xero or QuickBooks Online as an invoice the customer's payables cannot ignore

Paidnice holds a policy per customer group, so a trade group, a retail group and a disputed-accounts group each run their own rate at once. Two charge types are available on any one group: an invoice late fee per overdue invoice, and a statement interest charge on the whole overdue balance, netted against any credit on the account. Compounding is on by default and simple interest is the deliberate choice.

Around the charge runs the ladder: email and SMS (custom sending domain on Pro and above), statements on any schedule, prompt payment discounts, payment plans, a customer portal and escalation tasks.

The charge is raised on the ledger as a posted invoice, which is the mechanism that matters. Only a posted document enters the customer's own payables, their aged payables report and their next payment run. Statement interest recalculates at the moment the statement sends, so the figure the customer opens is right that morning. Customers using it report they cut their average wait for payment in half, within 30 days.

Escalations fire at a set number of days overdue, on a total balance, or on a credit-limit breach, as Phone Call, Stop Credit or Template Legal Letter tasks, and notes and call outcomes sync to the invoice in Xero. Reporting covers aged receivables by contact and a late fees and interest report. Signing up needs no card and the first 20 actions are free.

Limitations with Paidnice. Nobody at Paidnice phones your debtors; the escalation raises the task and the call is yours. There is no credit bureau. It is native to Xero and QuickBooks Online only; MYOB is supported on the Custom plan only. Capterra reviewers found the interface “still a bit clunky and not intuitive enough” at setup, and one asked for bulk removal of late fees.

Human collectors against a posted charge: who does the chasing

CreditorWatch Collect sells labour. Paidnice sells leverage. Both reduce the number of invoices that end up with a collection agency, by different routes, and neither one is a collection agency.

A call from a trained collector works because a person has to say no to a person. It costs by the month and stops when you stop paying. The Australian Small Business and Family Enterprise Ombudsman's recommended ladder is reminders, negotiation, a letter of demand and then an agency; CreditorWatch Collect covers the first two with people and the last with a partner.

A posted charge works because it changes the arithmetic of paying late. It appears in the customer's payables and can be waived in exchange for payment today, a negotiating position a reminder does not give you. Paidnice covers the reminder and the letter, adds the fee, and leaves the agency handover to you.

In Australia the last rung is cheap: the NSW Local Court Small Claims Division hears debts to $20,000 for a filing fee of $358 for a company. The practical question is how many invoices reach it. A call team lowers the count by persuasion; a fee policy lowers it by consequence. A business whose customers forget picks the first; one whose customers pay everyone else first picks the second.

What buyers ask when they have shortlisted exactly these two

The questions that come up once an Australian or New Zealand finance team has narrowed it to this pair and has to write the difference down for whoever signs the budget.

How much does CreditorWatch Collect cost per month?

Not published as at September 2026; the live page offers a 14-day free trial to 50 debtors and a Custom quote. Historical tiers on third-party listings ran A$89 to A$849 a month by debtor count, and Capterra lists “from A$175”. Paidnice publishes NZ$109 excluding GST or A$99 a month on Essentials.

Is CreditorWatch Collect the same as Debtor Daddy?

Yes. Debtor Daddy was founded in Christchurch in 2012 by Matt McFedries and Mark Haussmann, acquired by CreditorWatch in October 2022 and renamed CreditorWatch Collect on 1 March 2023. The Xero App Store listing, its review pool and the Capterra profile carried over; the old slug redirects.

Does CreditorWatch Collect charge late fees?

No late fee or interest feature was found on the features page, help centre, FAQ or review-site feature lists. Paidnice raises an invoice late fee, a statement interest charge or both on a customer group and posts them to Xero or QuickBooks Online as an invoice.

Does either product include a credit check?

Not inside the product. CreditorWatch Collect draws payment scores and risk prioritisation from its parent bureau, but adverse-data monitoring sits outside Collect. Paidnice has a payment-history score from 1 to 100 built from the customer's record with you, and no bureau.

Does either work with MYOB in Australia?

CreditorWatch Collect lists MYOB alongside Xero and QuickBooks as a standard integration. Paidnice is native to Xero and QuickBooks Online; MYOB is a build on the Custom plan, from A$1,499 a month.

Who actually makes the phone calls?

In CreditorWatch Collect, your own staff through the Call Console, or the vendor's New Zealand-based AR Specialists if you buy the service. In Paidnice, your own team: an escalation of type Phone Call emails the instructions and lists the task, and the outcome is logged to the invoice in Xero.

What are the alternatives to CreditorWatch Collect?

In Australia and New Zealand the Xero-listed options include Paidnice (5.0 from 83 reviews) and ezyCollect (4.94 from 35). The ezyCollect alternatives guide covers the wider field.

Which one should a New Zealand Xero user pick?

Pick CreditorWatch Collect if the missing piece is a person to make the calls and you want it on a monthly bill. Pick Paidnice if you have the people and want a fee, interest and a posted invoice to do the persuading.
