Adfin vs Chaser: both automate invoice chasing for UK businesses. Choose Adfin if you want chasing and payment collection in one place, paid per payment with no monthly fee. Choose Chaser if a credit control team wants letters, calls, Creditsafe checks and a debt collection route on a monthly plan from £199.
In short
- Price: Adfin charges 20p plus 1% per successful payment, capped at £4 on direct debit and bank payments, and its essential credit control is free. Chaser costs £199, £599 or £899 a month, set by company revenue.
- Payments: collecting the money is Adfin’s core product, with direct debit, open banking, cards and wallets. Chaser chases first and takes payments through Chaser Pay.
- Chasing: Adfin sends email, SMS and WhatsApp. Chaser sends email from your own mailbox, SMS, letters and automated calls.
- Reach: Adfin connects to Xero and QuickBooks and collects in sterling only. Chaser adds the Sage range, NetSuite and Microsoft Dynamics, and prices in five currencies.
What do Adfin and Chaser each do?
Chaser is credit control software: it reads invoices from your accounting system and chases them, and payment is one channel among several. Adfin is a payments platform that also chases: it collects the money itself and charges a share of each payment.
Both read invoices from Xero or QuickBooks, send reminders before and after the due date, send customer statements, set up payment plans and add late payment interest. The split is in what each one is built around.
- Chaser starts from the chase. Reminders go by email from your own Gmail or Outlook inbox, SMS, letters and automated calls. Payment runs through Chaser Pay or your own Stripe account.
- Adfin starts from the payment. It takes direct debit, open banking, cards, Apple Pay, Google Pay and bank transfer, retries a failed direct debit, and posts payments back to Xero. Since 12 September 2026 a business can also use Adfin for chasing only, without taking payments through it.

Which one fits your business?
Adfin fits a UK business on Xero or QuickBooks that wants its customers to pay by direct debit or open banking and would rather pay per payment than a monthly fee. Chaser fits a business with a credit control team, a larger ledger or several currencies.
Which one fits
- Choose Adfin if you invoice in sterling from Xero or QuickBooks, you want direct debit, card and open banking collection built in, and you want to pay nothing in a month when nothing is collected.
- Choose Chaser if you have a credit controller or a team, you want letters, automated calls and Creditsafe checks, you need a debt collection route, or you run the Sage range, NetSuite, Microsoft Dynamics or a currency other than sterling.
Two questions settle it. How do customers pay: if you want to move them onto direct debit, Adfin is built for that. How far does the chase go: if it ends in letters, calls and a collections agency, Chaser covers each step.
| Use case | Start with | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Moving customers onto direct debit | Adfin | Direct debit with automatic retries and a card fallback, capped at £4 a payment |
| No monthly software fee | Adfin | Essential credit control is free; you pay only on payments collected |
| Chasing by WhatsApp | Adfin | WhatsApp sits with email and SMS on the free tier; Chaser does not list it |
| Letters and automated calls | Chaser | Both sit alongside email and SMS; Adfin lists neither |
| Credit checks on new customers | Chaser | Creditsafe reports and monitoring; Adfin’s site lists no credit checks |
| Passing a debt to a collections agency | Chaser | Debitura route inside the same platform |
| A ledger on Sage, NetSuite or Microsoft Dynamics | Chaser | Adfin connects to Xero and QuickBooks |
| Invoicing in euros, dollars or another currency | Chaser | Adfin collects in sterling only |
How much do Adfin and Chaser cost?
Adfin has no monthly fee: essential credit control is free and each successful payment costs 20p plus 1%, capped at £4 on direct debit and bank payments (Adfin pricing). Chaser costs £199 a month on Compact for revenue under £4m, £599 on Core under £10m and £899 on Complete under £100m, about 10% less billed yearly (Chaser pricing).
Adfin’s other fees: Enhanced credit control adds 0.3% per paid invoice, direct debit and bank payments over £2,000 add 0.30%, premium cards cost 20p plus 2.00%, chargebacks cost £15 each, and a custom business name on direct debits costs £36 a month. Above £200,000 a month in payments, Adfin quotes its own price.
Chaser’s other costs: Compact includes 4 users, 30 follow-up templates and 4 automated workflows. The AR forecast add-on is £9 a month on Compact and Core, and Chaser Care bundles cost £899, £1,599 and £2,099 a month. Chaser offers a 10-day free trial with no card details.
What each costs at three invoice volumes
The two prices measure different things, so the cheaper one depends on how many invoices you collect and how large they are. The table applies each vendor’s published price list to three monthly volumes, with every invoice paid by direct debit or bank payment.
| Collected a month | Adfin, essential | Adfin, with Enhanced | Chaser Compact |
|---|---|---|---|
| 20 invoices of £300 (£6,000) | £64 | £82 | £199 |
| 50 invoices of £1,000 (£50,000) | £200 | £350 | £199 |
| 150 invoices of £1,200 (£180,000) | £600 | £1,140 | £199 |
Our arithmetic from each vendor’s published price list. Adfin: 20p plus 1% per payment, capped at £4, plus 0.3% of each paid invoice on Enhanced. Chaser: the Compact monthly price, which needs company revenue under £4m. The figures are not like for like. Adfin’s fee includes taking the payment, while Chaser’s plan does not, so add your payment provider’s fees to the Chaser column. At the same volumes paid by standard card, Adfin’s fee is uncapped: 50 invoices of £1,000 cost £510.
How do Adfin and Chaser take payments?
Adfin collects every payment itself: direct debit with automatic retries and a fallback to a card on file, open banking, cards, Apple Pay, Google Pay, bank transfer with automatic reconciliation, and card payments taken by phone. Since February 2026 Adfin also works as a payment method inside Xero.
Chaser takes payments through Chaser Pay, which accepts instant bank transfer including open banking, Visa, Mastercard, Amex, Apple Pay and Google Pay, or through a Stripe account you connect. Chaser runs a payment portal where each customer can view and pay invoices and raise a dispute.
Adfin settles open banking payments the same day, cards and bank transfers in two working days and direct debit in three. Payouts reach you about two working days after collection, so Xero can show an invoice as paid before the money lands.
How do Adfin and Chaser chase overdue invoices?
Adfin chases by email, SMS and WhatsApp with no limit on the free tier, and sends customer statements on rules you set. Chaser chases by email from your own Gmail or Outlook inbox, SMS, letters and automated calls, and sends monthly statements.
Adfin’s Enhanced tier adds AI customer agents that answer basic invoice questions, reminders that adapt to each customer, sending from your own email address, and automatic late fees. Chaser’s SMS, call and letter channels draw on credits included in each plan, and in-app calls are recorded from Core upwards.
Both add late payment interest under the Late Payment of Commercial Debts (Interest) Act 1998. Chaser offers four calculation types, including one that follows the Bank of England base rate, under one set of rules for the account, and adds no fee to invoices on a payment plan or part paid. Adfin calculates, applies and reconciles late fees on Enhanced with a grace period you set. When a customer pays a late fee, you keep the interest and Adfin takes a fixed compensation amount.
What should you check before you sign up?
Each vendor’s help pages list limits that its sales pages leave out. These are the ones a buyer should ask about.
- Adfin: who holds the money. Adfin’s legal page says authorised third-party providers deliver its payment services and names neither the provider nor a licence number.
- Adfin: sterling and setup. Adfin collects in sterling only. New direct debit mandates take three working days to activate, and Xero repeating invoices must be set to “Approve only” to avoid duplicates.
- Adfin: fair use. The free essential tier runs under a fair use policy that the pricing page does not define.
- Chaser: the Xero connection. Xero disconnects Chaser every 90 days and chasing pauses until someone reconnects. The help centre says the sync runs once a day, while the Xero integration page says every hour.
- Chaser: credit reports. Creditsafe reports are not available to customers who subscribe through the Xero App Store.
