NetSuite payments: how customers pay invoices by card, ACH and Stripe

The three ways a customer can pay a NetSuite invoice online, what each one needs before it works, what it costs per payment, and how the payment gets back to the invoice.

Customers can pay NetSuite invoices online through three routes: the native Payment Link, NetSuite Pay (card and ACH, United States and Canada only), or the Stripe connector. The route you pick decides what you set up, what each payment costs, and whether the payment reaches the invoice in NetSuite without manual work.

In short

  • Payment Link: native hosted checkout with an optional partial payment switch. Oracle lists five things to set up before one email carries a link.
  • NetSuite Pay: card and ACH processing run by Versapay, for businesses in the United States and Canada. Versapay’s published list rates start at 2.9% + 30 cents for cards.
  • Stripe connector: the free invoice link collects the payment. Only the full connector syncs payouts and fees and automates cash reconciliation.
  • Cost: processing fees outweigh software fees. ACH is the cheaper rail, and NetSuite Pay caps an ACH fee at $8.

You send an invoice from NetSuite and the customer replies to ask where to click to pay. The Payment Link feature can answer that. Oracle lists five things to set up before one invoice email carries a link, and the processor behind the link sets the fee.

How do customers pay a NetSuite invoice online?

Customers pay a NetSuite invoice online by clicking a link in the invoice email, signing in to the Customer Center, or paying through a connected provider such as Stripe.

The routes side by side

The table below compares every route on the same eight points. Fees come from each provider’s published page. Where a provider publishes no NetSuite rate, the cell says so.

Oracle names credit card gateways and PayPal on its Payment Link page. Other gateway names come from provider documentation and from the sources Google’s AI Overview cites. The order of rows follows the setup effort, not a ranking. Check current rates with each provider before you sign.

Oracle lists five prerequisites: Payment Instruments, online credit card payments, payment methods, a payment processing profile for each card gateway, and DKIM; the invoice templates also need Advanced PDF/HTML Templates.

The steps below follow Oracle’s Payment Link chapter:

  1. Turn on the features. Setup > Company > Enable Features > Transactions > Payment Processing: tick Payment Instruments, then Payment Link.
  2. Allow online card payments and create a Payment Method record for each method you offer.
  3. Add a payment processing profile for each card gateway.
  4. Set up DKIM. Since release 2024.1 this is two CNAME records in your DNS. Oracle keeps rewriting From headers until the records are in place, and the window to finish is 14 days.
  5. Switch the invoice form to Advanced printing. Turn on Advanced PDF/HTML Templates, then set the print and email templates to the Standard Payment Link Invoice template.

The checkout page itself is set at Commerce > Payment Link. You choose a unique domain prefix, the payment methods, and your logo, which NetSuite resizes to 120 x 85 pixels. Changing the domain prefix later breaks every link already sent.

NetSuite sends two system emails from the page: a payment confirmation and a declined notice. Both are editable at Setup > Company > System Email Templates.

Can a customer pay part of a NetSuite invoice?

Yes, if you tick Accept Partial Payments on the Payment Link setup page; the customer then chooses the amount, and Oracle documents no minimum or schedule.

With the box unticked, the customer must pay the full invoice. Oracle describes no other partial payment rule, so there is no instalment plan, no minimum amount and no payment date schedule on the native link. A business that offers payment plans needs a separate tool for them.

What is NetSuite Pay, and who can use it?

NetSuite Pay is Oracle’s integrated card and ACH processing, run by Versapay, for businesses in the United States and Canada.

You install the NetSuite Pay SuiteApp and pass Versapay’s merchant application before you configure it. Oracle’s NetSuite Pay overview lists what it adds:

  • Stored cards: tokenized and PCI DSS compliant, so card numbers do not sit in NetSuite.
  • Settlement reports: daily and monthly.
  • Customer Center and SuiteCommerce MyAccount: customers can pay by card or ACH when they sign in.
  • Payment link or QR code on e-invoices. The QR code needs an Advanced PDF/HTML invoice template.

A UK, EU or Australian business cannot use NetSuite Pay. It needs another gateway, such as Adyen or Stripe, installed as a separate SuiteApp or bundle.

Does the Stripe connector work for NetSuite invoices?

Yes. Stripe offers a free invoice payment link and a paid full connector, and only the full connector syncs payouts and fees and automates cash reconciliation.

Stripe’s own comparison table (Stripe connector installation docs) splits the two this way:

ItemFree invoice payment linkFull connector
OnboardingSelf-serveAfter a sales demo
Collect invoice payments through Stripe CheckoutYesYes
Sync Stripe data, payouts and fees to NetSuiteNoYes
Automated cash reconciliationNoYes
Multiple subsidiaries, multi-currency, custom field mappingListed as full onlyYes

The free link needs SOAP web services and token-based authentication turned on, two bundles (178262 for authentication and 449983 for the payment page), and two fields on the invoice form. The customer sees Stripe Checkout in the invoice’s currency, with the payment methods you enabled in Stripe. You map the link to a Pay now button in your email and PDF templates.

Stripe’s troubleshooting notes report that the link fails when the amount due is hidden, zero or already paid. Invoices created before installation need a separate backfill bundle (581482) before they carry a link.

Stripe’s documents disagree on subsidiaries. The comparison table lists multiple subsidiaries as full connector only, while the installation page gives a formula for two or more OneWorld subsidiaries on the free link. Ask Stripe which applies to your account before you plan around it. Oracle also ends new SOAP and token-based integrations at release 2027.1.

What does each NetSuite payment option cost?

On published list rates a card payment costs about 2.9% plus 30 cents, while ACH costs a fraction of that and NetSuite Pay caps it at $8 per payment.

NetSuite Pay’s list rates come from Versapay’s NetSuite Pay pricing page, not from Oracle. Oracle says fees appear on the NetSuite Pay dashboard.

NetSuite Pay fee (Versapay list rate)Amount
Card payment2.9% + 30 cents per authorization
Card issued outside the USExtra 1%
ACH payment0.35% + 30 cents, capped at $8
Monthly merchant fee$200
Chargeback$20
ACH return$20
PCI non-compliance$40 a month
Setup feeNone stated

The gap between the rails grows with invoice size. Using the list rates above, a $1,000 invoice paid by card costs $29.30 in fees and by ACH $3.80. A $10,000 invoice costs $290.30 by card and no more than $8 by ACH.

Stripe publishes its card and ACH rates on its pricing page, and the full connector is priced after a demo. Third-party summaries report Stripe’s standard US card rate as 2.9% + 30 cents. A payments consultancy reports that NetSuite Pay’s pre-set pricing builds in a margin and usually costs more than interchange-plus pricing from a merchant provider. NetSuite license and module costs sit on top; see NetSuite editions and modules.

How does a payment get back into NetSuite and clear the invoice?

Payment Link and NetSuite Pay payments post against the invoice in NetSuite, while Stripe’s free link does not sync payouts or fees and leaves cash reconciliation to you.

Oracle’s automated settlement reconciliation covers these cases (Oracle’s settlement reconciliation article):

  • Native Payment Link payments, by card and ACH
  • Invoices from several subsidiaries for one customer
  • Customer hierarchy invoices and multi-customer invoices
  • Applied prepayments and applied credit memos

It does not clear an NSF fee from Undeposited Funds, and it does not clear a payment that was voided and recreated. Those need manual work. The same page does not address partial payments or multi-currency settlements.

Timing is the other gap. Stripe’s ACH Direct Debit can take up to four business days to confirm success or failure, and funds settle in four business days, or two on faster settlement for eligible US accounts. Until then the invoice can look unpaid. Finance teams report that the wait between a Stripe payment and the bank receipt, often two to three days, is the step they most want matched to the invoice, with an approval step before it posts.

Can customers pay from the NetSuite Customer Center?

Yes, if you turn on Customer Access; customers can view and pay invoices, and card and ACH payments there run through NetSuite Pay.

Oracle’s Customer Center setup enables it at Setup > Company > Enable Features > Web Presence. You then grant access per customer record, or in bulk by CSV import. The standard role shows estimates, orders, invoices and payments.

  • To stop payments: set the role’s Customer Payments permission to None.
  • Passwords: customer logins are separate from employee logins, and a password reset link expires after 60 minutes.
  • Outside the US and Canada: NetSuite Pay is not available, so Customer Center payments need another route.

Which NetSuite payment option fits my situation?

  • Choose the Stripe full connector if you already run Stripe and need payouts, fees and reconciliation inside NetSuite.

For group setups, see NetSuite OneWorld pricing for what each subsidiary adds.

Do NetSuite payment reminders carry the payment link?

Oracle’s Payment Link page names the invoice email and invoice PDF only; it does not describe dunning letters or statements carrying the link.

That leaves a gap after the first email. A customer who misses the invoice email may get a dunning letter or statement with no way to pay from it. Accounts receivable tools that chase overdue invoices can close the gap by placing a Pay now link in every reminder.

Paidnice is one of them. It connects to NetSuite (two-way sync, custom fields, OneWorld supported) through a custom implementation on its Custom plan, set up by an implementation specialist. It puts a Pay now link in reminder emails, SMS reminders, statements and its customer portal, and it can replace the NetSuite Dunning Letters SuiteApp, at a Custom price from $999 a month (£749 in the UK), quoted for your setup. Other options appear in best AR automation software.

Does NetSuite also pay suppliers?

Yes, but through different tools: Electronic Bank Payments and Intelligent Payment Automation handle vendor payments, and this page covers customer payments only.

Electronic Bank Payments generates EFT and ACH payment files for vendor payments and customer refunds. It does not send those files to your bank. Intelligent Payment Automation, as described in the Oracle pages that Google’s AI Overview cites, runs vendor payment batches through an integration with Bill.

Common questions

Can NetSuite take credit card payments on invoices?

Yes. Once you enable Payment Instruments and Payment Link, create a Payment Method record and add a card gateway profile, the invoice email carries a link to a hosted checkout page. In the United States and Canada, NetSuite Pay can be the card processor; elsewhere you connect another gateway.

Does NetSuite accept ACH payments from customers?

Yes, through NetSuite Pay in the United States and Canada, or through a connected provider such as Stripe. Versapay’s list rate for NetSuite Pay ACH is 0.35% + 30 cents, capped at $8. Oracle’s settlement reconciliation page covers Payment Link payments by both card and ACH.

Is the Stripe connector for NetSuite free?

The invoice payment link is free and self-serve. The full connector, which syncs payouts and fees, automates cash reconciliation and supports multiple subsidiaries and currencies, is sold after a sales demo. Stripe’s processing fees apply to both.

What is NetSuite Pay?

NetSuite Pay is Oracle’s integrated card and ACH processing, run by Versapay and installed as a SuiteApp. It is available to businesses in the United States and Canada. It adds tokenized stored cards, daily and monthly settlement reports, and payments inside the Customer Center.

What payment integrations are available in NetSuite?

NetSuite offers the native Payment Link, NetSuite Pay, and gateway integrations installed as SuiteApps or bundles. Providers named in Oracle documentation and in the sources AI search tools cite include Versapay (through NetSuite Pay), Stripe, Adyen, CyberSource, Braintree and PayPal. The list here is not a ranking.

How do I deposit a payment in NetSuite?

A payment collected through the Payment Link or NetSuite Pay posts against the invoice automatically. A customer payment recorded into Undeposited Funds waits there until you group it into a bank deposit. Oracle’s settlement reconciliation clears most of these, but not NSF fees or voided-and-recreated payments.

Can NetSuite payment reminders include a payment link?

Oracle’s Payment Link page describes the link in the invoice email and PDF only. It does not say whether dunning letters or statements carry it. Accounts receivable tools that chase overdue invoices can add a Pay now link to each reminder and statement.
